The eye is watching: An out of control military agency

the-eye-is-watching-an-out-of-control-military-agencyIn J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantastic work of fiction, The Lord Of The Rings, the dark lord Sauron, not yet able to maintain a physical form, attempting to dominate middle earth, is depicted as an evil eye. Able to penetrate time, space, and the human mind, the evil force sought to dominate “Middle Earth”

In a bizarre and frightening case of life imitating art, the United States defense department has created an office that seeks those same limitless powers as Tolkien’s dark lord. The Information Awareness Office (IAO) seeks what it calls “Total Information Awareness”. The agency has even adopted the new world order symbol of the pyramid with the all knowing eye hovering above it that is seen on the back of a one dollar Federal Reserve note. Taking the symbolism a step further, the eye casts its rays down upon the planet earth.

Any reasonable American citizen, regardless of political ideology, with the exception of pure left wing totalitarians, must find a visit to the IAO website a chilling experience. It is like something out of a sci-fi horror movie, only, it is real. The agency’s web site clearly outlines goals for implementing a police state. The IAO mission statement claims that it will “counter asymmetric threats by achieving total information awareness useful for preemption; national security warning; and national security decision making.”

How will it counter such threats?

IAO plans to create a super database of fingerprints, iris and face scans, financial information, medical data, and every other thing imaginable. The Human Identification At A Distance Program (HumanID) seeks to use video surveillance to recognize people by iris, face, and gait recognition. Maybe that would explain all the video camera’s popping up in U.S. cities like those recently installed in Wilmington Delaware.

The Genoa II program “will develop and deploy cognitive aids that allow humans and machines to “think together” in real-time about complicated problems”. Apparently there are no limits to the agency’s goals. But, what do you expect from an agency that openly states that its main goal is omniscience?

In Latin the IAO slogan says that knowledge is power. Somewhere along the way the Bush administration seems to have lost touch with the concept that the power comes from the people through elected representatives. The government should not have power over the people; the people should have power over the government.

What possible checks and balances could be put in place to balance this out of control military agency? Who could possibly challenge it?

When describing the threat posed by terrorists the site states, “It is difficult to counter the threat that terrorists pose. Currently, terrorists are able to move freely throughout the world”. Fascinating. The argument given by the defense department for creating a militaristic totalitarian state is that it is the natural byproduct of a world without borders.

That being said, volunteers for American Border Patrol have been helping ranchers like Roger Barnett round up illegal aliens invading the country along the Mexican border because the federal government refuses to do so. Barnett told the audience last week on the Phil Donohue show that the FBI had recently informed him that there might be a hit out on his life by human smugglers.

Wouldn’t a simple perimeter defense, followed by tracking, detaining, and deporting illegal aliens, be a preferable method for protecting national security than throwing away the constitution and creating military rule.

Isn’t it strange that the federal government won’t police and protect the borders of the USA but seems perfectly content to create a left wing totalitarian state?

To further illustrate the absurdity a federal judge in Los Angeles temporarily blocked as unconstitutional a new rule mandating that airport screeners must be American citizens. Imagine the logic. Foreign terrorists endangering Americans, yet at the same time, foreigners are policing Americans.

Is it actually less painful for elected representatives to create a police state than to be called racists for closing the borders? According to the Economist this week, Republicans won due to the increased white voter turnout, plain and simple. GOP won 58% of the white vote. The Republican mandate is to close the borders and deport aliens, not to create a police state.

Maybe the IAO is to become the 21st century KGB. Invading privacy, blackmailing, extorting, and destroying free citizens that resist domination. It could even be designed to do so on behalf of an institution of world government.

In any case, this is not a conspiracy theory; the agency exists. It is out in the open and clearly stating its purpose, which is to create Police State USA.
