Relax, George W. Bush will do just fine: What I know about our new president

A lot has been said about George W Bush and what type of president he’ll make. Many have said he is dumb and has just surrounded himself with people from his father’s administration. That he is too conservative and is destined to fail. Many others have said that he is showing true leadership by surrounding himself with seasoned professionals. The biggest fear about President Bush seems to be that he’ll end up like his father, give in to the liberals and end up loosing his base, thus becoming a one-term president. I on the other hand believe he’ll make a great president. Because I believe he truly cares about this country and its people. Here’s why.About nineteen years ago I was just out of college and working for the Western Company of North American, an oil field services company out of Snyder, Texas. We had gone up to Fluvanna, Texas to service some oil wells for Bush Exploration. It had been raining and the mud was a foot deep.

Part of our job included attaching heavy metal tubing from our acidizing equipment to the well head. It was a busy time of the year so I didn’t have many men in my crew to help connect all the equipment and instruments to the well. The company man on location was gracious enough to assist my men and me in preparing to service the well. At the same time the tool man failed to show up so the company man had to operate the pulling unit (small portable oil derrick on wheels), this was a dirty and dangerous job, but the company man didn’t seem to mind the hard work. Finally all of the prep work was finished and we were able to perform the job. Once finished we racked up all of our muddy equipment and went on to the next location where the procedure was repeated.

After completing both jobs and before starting to head back to Snyder I had to get the company representative to sign off on the paper work. He signed the needed forms and we headed back home. On the way home I decided to look over the paper work, that’s when I noticed the company mans name, it was George W Bush. This made an impression on me I’ll never forget.

Here was the son of the sitting Vice President, a man with a masters degree form Harvard, who had no reservations about getting down in the mud and assisting my crew in getting the jobs completed on time. Not once did he mention who he was or make anyone feel that they were beneath him. He realized there was a job to do and did what he had to, seeing that it was done and done right.

This is the type of man George W Bush was then and the kind of man I believe he is today. A man that truly cares about people and wants to see that the job is done right. This is the type of man I want as my president. My only regret is that I never got to work with him again. The oil field went bust shortly after that and most of us moved on to different careers. But if anything defines “compassionate conservatism” is what George W Bush did in the oil fields of West Texas that day and what I believe he will do in Washington as this nations 43rd President. God bless you Mr. Bush, I know you’ll do just fine.
