The ultimate inversion: Don’t live in Wilmette, Illinois
“The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible to live without breaking laws.”
Don’t even think about ever living in Wilmette, Illinois if you believe you have a God given inalienable right to defend your family.
Hale DeMar is a Chicago area homeowner who has been charged with violating an insane local ordinance banning possession of handguns.
Wilmette, Illinois is the antithesis of Kennesaw, Georgia. In 1982 Kennesaw, Georgia passed an ordinance requiring heads of households (with certain exceptions) to keep at least one firearm in their homes.
Kennesaw is one example validating Dr. John Lott’s claim of “More Guns Less Crime” , and proves that the presence of firearms actually improves safety and security. This axiom is anathema to the mainstream media and other liberal sycophants.
That Wilmette Police Chief, George Carpenter, said, “We much prefer, for the safety of the home, that a resident who finds himself in this situation immediately lock the door of the room he’s in and dial 911.” I’m surprised he didn’t suggest huddling in a corner with a blanket over your head.
On August 22, 1999, Tony Martin of Emneth, Norfolk, England, killed one burglar and wounded a second. In April 2000, he was convicted and is now serving a life term.
When the Martin controversy erupted many said (and still say) “Yeah, but that’s England!” Hell-o? DeMar is a Chicago area restaurant owner…the deluded Carpenter is an American police chief.
The Tony Martin case sparked an excrement storm that is still swirling. The accomplice of the killed burglar who was also shot by Martin (and who had more than 30 criminal convictions) is trying to sue Martin for damages as a result of being shot. Go figure…. I supposed American burglars injured ‘on the job’ would apply for and receive workman’s compensation?
In October 2001 Martin’s offence was begrudgingly downgraded to manslaughter and his sentence reduced to five years. But the controversy continues.
The surviving burglar is trying to sue Martin for damages as a result of being shot. He has asked for a reported £15,000 for loss of earnings, claiming he can no longer enjoy sex or bear to see shootings on television. The plaintiff is currently in jail (which raises an interesting question about his alleged sexual dysfunction).
Martin has struggled with the parole board for early release from prison. He is due for automatic release on 28 July, but could have been released as early as September last year. However, the parole board has continually refused him early release – saying (now pay attention to this) he has shown no remorse and would continue to pose a danger to any other burglars.
Wait a flippin’ minute….Martin poses a danger to any other BURGLARS?
Actually Martin will be vulnerable to revenge attacks from his suing burglar’s supporters – who have reportedly put a heavy bounty on his head.
Despite criminals putting a bounty on Martin’s head, the government has their panties in a bunch over the prospect that (God forbid) Martin may be compelled to protect himself? What is wrong with this picture?
Meanwhile here in the “land of the free”, Morio Billings, reportedly entered the DeMar home twice within 24 hours. Prosecutors say Billings crashed through the DeMar front window after he was shot, then drove himself to the hospital in the family’s SUV (which he had stolen the night before).
Billings, convicted last year of a similar home burglary, is now in the Cook County Jail with bail set at $3 million.
DeMar, is looking at up to a year in jail, a $2,500 fine or court supervision or probation if convicted. The village’s handgun ordinance carries a separate fine of up to $750.
Chief Carpenter (a permanent resident of the state of denial in a suburb of Stepford) insists local residents have responded favorably.
“Wilmette residents are much safer without a handgun in their homes,” he told the Tribune. BULLFEATHERS! I’d send him a copy of Dr. John Lott’s “More Guns Less Crime” but doubt his willingness or capacity to read the compendium of facts that empirically contradict his preconceived p.c. hogwash.
Carpenter said he regrets “the intrusion on this family’s privacy.” Right! Of course Carpenter HAS a gun in his house.
Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association, noted, “The right to self-defense is the right that all creatures on this Earth have…What they do is they make the citizens in these villages and towns fair game.”
These stories are not scenes from an Ionessco play. They are classic examples of abuse of power under the color of authority
In ‘The Nature of Government’, Ayn Rand observed, “We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force.”
