Liberal blindness: Western civilization & christianity

Note to Readers: Peacocks fold their feathers and hide in shame when confronted by the illumination of Kaliher.

Thinking humans are continually confused by leftist beliefs. In a recent e-mail correspondence with a “person of the left,” I finally grasped a bit of insight into their hate for Western Civilization and Christianity. The discovery defies all logic, any shred of comparative thought, and demands a denial of world history, but it is their belief. Today, I aim this column specifically at all mass produced and undereducated leftists. I ask the leftist to see if I’ve summed up their beliefs correctly, and then reflect on my examples of comparative behavior.

I’ve recently discovered the liberal bases his beliefs on what self-selected “public intellectuals” state. Although the non-leftist will continue to consider me a regular Joe named Bill, I want to assure the progressive reader I’m an intellectual. Perhaps more important for the socialist is the fact I’m also sophisticated, at least on those days when I don’t eat chicken with my fingers, play mumbly-peg or scratch my arse in public.

I gained this insight when I shared part of an article I was working on with a left-wing correspondent. We were discussing socialism and Western Civilization among other issues. I wrote, “Not a single liberal can recognize the path he’s taking will, at best, bring him to a serf-like status of working a rice paddy and, at worst, will leave him in the squalor and poverty of a Haiti, but under an even worse government. ”

I paraphrase the response: That’s fine rhetoric. Your readers aren’t likely to read Chomsky or other “leftists” and find themselves grappling with the inconsistencies and hypocrisies inherent in a system you have blind faith in. All these centuries of spreading Christianity and Western “values” were nothing but enlightened altruism? C’mon! You are a shill for the capitalist/rulers who ruthlessly exploited the world for material gain—and in your more lucid moments wonder why you have a one-party State. Does your “grand theory” not account for the inherent monopolization of economics extending into the political realm? And do you really believe you can deftly pass off this inevitability as the aberration of socialism?

Surely you do not believe or support all that “motherhood” nonsense about killing for freedom and democracy when history is patently clear about American global political, economic, and commercial interests?…

Basically this left-wing, non-thought process boils down to everything negative in the world is because of:

  1. Capitalism
  2. Christianity
  3. Western Civilization
  4. Western values
  5. White people (and especially white men).

After constantly hearing liberals spout off about their intellectualism, their compassion and the inability of right-wingers to grasp the complexity of the world, I’m always pleasantly amazed to see the absurd simplicity involved in leftist non-thought. How little understanding of human nature, much less history, is required to come up with such lunacy? My apologies, leftist readers, I want to educate you and am not meaning to ridicule, but it’s difficult when confronted with such false notions. How does one deny every fact, every piece of evidence, to hold onto something so ludicrous? The answer, of course, is propaganda and the elimination of cognitive reasoning. The former socialist Orwell predicted left-wing actions, but getting a liberal to grasp their misuse is the problem.

Let’s tackle my correspondent’s first claim: Your readers aren’t likely to read Chomsky or other “leftists” and find themselves grappling with the inconsistencies and hypocrisies inherent in a system you have blind faith in.

Instead of studying us the leftist assumes and accuses us right-wingers of believing with blind faith. However, that we don’t read Chomsky and other leftists is equally ridiculous. Even those who don’t read this leftwing semi-deity cannot escape his thoughts and hate for the United States of America. Ninety-five percent of the media are Chomsky clones. Every report they do is from his point of view. An American citizen can rarely tune in a radio or television show, or watch a Hollywood movie that doesn’t present his views via his fellow leftists. Even songs reflect the barbarism and slime sought by the Chomsky’s among us rather than the enlightenment of a Jefferson or Madison. Perhaps, we’ve the ability to understand the Chomsky’s and have rejected the imbecility, narrowness and thoughtlessness of his pronouncements. We realize the non-intellectual repairing radios for a living has more insight into government, human nature and history than a Chomsky on his best day. Perhaps, we’ve read him well and see the failure of his predictions, the inaccuracies of his presentations and question his grasp of history, culture and sanity. A better question might be, is there a leftist alive who actually understands Chomsky?

Next it is implied we don’t grapple with the inconsistencies and hypocrisies inherent in our system. How smug, how falsely self-assured must a left-winger be to make such a statement: unthinking political robots inferring others share their blindness, inabilities and inconsistencies. I’ll return to human nature in this article, so do try to keep your eye on that ball. Of course, we see the hypocrisies and inconsistencies inherent in our system. The difference in right- and left-wingers on this issue is the right-winger actually possesses the ability to see and compare hypocrisies and inconsistencies in all systems. I’ve studied the evidence and believe the combination American, Representative Republic and the capitalist system to be the best mankind has yet developed. It’s far from perfect, but we citizens have an outside chance of making it better. Here we come to the point the liberal always fails to grasp: human nature. I can only say the American system is best because no other system, political or economic, takes human nature into account as they develop their government. The result is virtually all necessities are met and even the poor live in luxury compared to their counterparts in most other nations.

What is that item, that braking device that takes human nature into account in the American system that is found nowhere else? The answer is, of course, checks and balances. Most people assume those checks and balances are the three branches of government, but in truth, they run far deeper in our system. Several levels of courts are available. A jury can actually overturn the courts and Congress by denying the imposition of a law on a defendant. We have the right to bear arms, not so much for self-defense as a threat to the people leading our government. We have freedom of speech. I could go on and on with limitations on government inherent in our system, but they’re worth the leftist looking up and thinking about–although many of the subtler checks and balances would be difficult for a foreign leftist to figure out. Our system works worse and sputters when big government combined with big business to influence or lessen our checks and balances. However, so far, we American citizens have been able to regain our rights and return our government to equilibrium on several occasions.

Next, we can examine the wonderful socialist governments from Adolph’s Nazism to Uncle Joe’s U.S.S.R. There were no curbs on human nature concerning those wonderful experiments with socialism. Instead of acting for the people, serving freedom and the individual, they functioned as monarchies, serving the state and the select few. The people had no say in decisions; those governments lacked checks and balances. But, ah, you leftists now claim to have a better form of socialism in Western Europe. However, I see countries from France to Sweden limiting free speech. Politically controlled courts overrule the people. I notice poorer housing, less medical care and oppression of the human will. I witness the selling of the human soul for temporary security. The recent burning of French suburbs is a direct result of elite leadership ignoring the people.

Let me now put the last three paragraphs into specific terms for the enlightenment of the left. The United Nations remains a scandal ridden den of sneak thieves. There is no built in self-correcting system within the organization. It can only be fixed from the force of outside pressures. One can compare that pool of infectious pus to any monarchy, or socialist system. It’s easy to see with the Nazis and Communists, features for internal corrective action were nonexistent. In France today certain politicians cannot face criminal investigation and with that little rule the country will stumble toward another reign of terror. In America homosexuals can negatively refer to heterosexual women as “breeders.” On the other hand, heterosexuals can negatively refer to homosexuals as queers. The only rule is the two groups cannot kill one another. However, in Sweden the citizen has lost the right to criticize homosexuality. It seems a little thing on the surface but it is a government outlawing thought, it is a government removing the citizen’s right to redress. It is a giant step toward the rule of the few. It is why the United Nation’s allows freedom of speech except in opposition to their edicts.

No, we conservatives grapple with the problems in our government. We realize the rich have bought politicians, crimped the free market and limited our freedoms. However, we’re not like those suffering under a socialist government. We’ve still got an outside chance to right things.

But, let’s continue on with your negative views concerning the modern European world. I’ll grant you a multitude of negatives associated with the spread of Christianity and Western values. However, I also have to ask how shallow a person must be to accept that negative belief without context and without comparative appraisals? Why the fear of reality on the left? Why the need to make up issues around a historical fact instead of accepting the fact?

Is the spread of Christianity and Western values worse than the spread of atheist and socialist Communism or Nazism since the 1920s? Was Communist domination somehow more enlightened and noble? If we take away deaths related to disease, I’d guess the spread of Communism over eighty-years caused more deaths than the spread of Christianity achieved over 2,000 years. Yes, introducing epidemic diseases into the Americas was a horrible event. But, those people were exactly like modern liberals in several unenlightened ways. They had no idea of what they were doing. They didn’t know what a germ was. In that area they were like today’s liberals concerning politics and government, they wouldn’t know their ass from the proverbial hole in the ground. The difference is the explorers and conquistadores would have had enough sense to have listened had someone been around to point things out for them. So, just think, my liberal reader, as you read this article you slowly begin to see a difference in your a-hole and that scoop from the soil.

But, let’s not stop with such a simple comparison. Someone’s got it in your head the spread of Christianity, Western Civilization, especially when combined with Capitalism, is the worse thing in the world. Instead let’s look at history and do what liberals hate to do—compare.

How about those Asiatic Huns and Mongols that swept into Europe hundreds of years ago? Neither group was burdened with Western values or thought, much less with evil Christianity. When I look around the modern world, I see improvement everywhere as a result of Western Civilization. However, I find no improvement from the Huns and Mongols visitations. There aren’t better roads, buildings, more food, better medicine or religious values from their influence as there is from Western Civilization. I hate to be culturally superior concerning religion, but I can’t see where the Bible recommends the mass rape of women. I probably didn’t mention it, but I’ve yet to hear of a priest, minister or rabbi recommending their flock feed captured women’s babies to their dogs. I certainly realize I could never be as smart as Chomsky, but somehow I have the sneaky suspicion Western values might have improved the lives and culture of those Asiatic hordes and led to less pillaging.

Perhaps we can locate another civilization and religion that would be far more enlightening than Western culture and Christianity. It seems the left has a fascination with Islam these days. Well it makes sense that leftist’s would like a religion founded by a guy hammering a nine-year-old girl. I’ve looked through a bit of Jewish and Christian history and can’t find too many priests, ministers, rabbis or saints exalted for their fantastic sexual abilities with a little child. (I’m not certain what the Gods of the Mongols and Huns said about child sex but I believe both Attila and Genghis were man enough to take on full grown women.) Let’s see, it seems the “Religion of Peace” or thinking about Mohammed perhaps that should be “Religion of getting a young Piece” spread by removing those evil Christians, not to mention those unworthy Jews, from North Africa and the Middle East.

Golly gee, what did Islamic Civilization and culture do? A comparison reveals the Moslem areas of the world from 700 to 2005 are less modern and more intolerant than was the case under Christian rule. Perhaps we need to step back further. Utto, Christian and pagan Roman rule provided more freedom, equality and technology than modern Islam, damn that Western cultural influence. Perhaps, we’ve not gone back far enough, so, let’s look at Egypt. Golly, what’s that two or three thousand years of Pharaohs and they’re still ahead of modern Moslem nations? Well at least we can say those Egyptian rulers weren’t contaminated by Western Civilization and Christianity. Oh wait, excuse me, on second thought I believe they are the foundations of Western Civilization and those Jews they enslaved, seems they’re the fathers of Christianity. Doggone it! Let’s look elsewhere.

Let’s see, there were the Americas before Christianity and Western Civilization. They were certainly in fine shape. Many tribes were building pyramids and temples for an assortment of worthy gods while others enjoyed the wild nomadic life. Unfortunately we’ve lost touch with many of their god’s but Quetzalcoatl has long been one of my favorites. Should I ever decide to enjoy a human thigh for supper I may start worshiping him. However, cannibalism sort of turns my stomach, so I think I’ll avoid the fellow. If we examine the situation we realize that since Western Civilization entered the picture there have been no mass sacrifices of over 20,000 humans at a time. Admittedly the priest class was thrown out of work, but the descendents of the average Indian seems to have improved his lot in life. Then again one must understand the feast or famine cycle of early life to grasp the facts and one can only hope a liberal will eventually read a book on pre-Christian life in the Americas. (Hint: those eco-friendly inventors of tobacco and nature’s caretakers stampeded thousands of buffalo over cliffs to die in broken limb agony so a few could be harvested for meat and fur.)

Africa south of the Sahara before Western Civilization and Christianity must be the answer. What a wonderful place and no one had to be bothered by writing. People were free to worship forest spirits and eat one another just like ancient people everywhere until those nasty western values and Christianity took hold. Thankfully, such wicked western values have not caught on in all of Africa and one can still find slavery practiced as well as cannibalism. I can hardly wait for liberalism to completely kill Christianity and western values so we can all enjoy such lives.

Then of course there are the great civilizations of eastern Asia. India, Japan and China among many others certainly do not take a backseat to Western Civilization and Christianity in many areas. However, western influence has helped in a few instances. The Japanese no longer test their samurai swords on living human beings. I’ll admit if they argued the sharpness was only tested on liberals I’d have to rethink my occidental aversion for this ancient practice. Were that the case I’d have to admit a thinking person was not being harmed but in the meantime I’ll continue believing this was a good practice to discontinue.

However, we have to look at Asia a tad differently than the remainder of the world. We must study similarities and differences as five centuries ago Asia was as advanced as Europe. It’s obvious the first vestiges of capitalism, if not the crack in non-competitive Catholic rule, allowed even the smallest nations of Europe to speed past the Asian nations at breakneck speed. We see today those Asian nations that adopted capitalism are overtaking Europe and its head start. Perhaps more amazing is those western nations adopting socialism and the ancient form of rule by the few are slipping behind the Asian nations.

Still, what is the impact of Christianity on these eastern nations? Surprisingly the major Asian religions from Buddhism to Hinduism shared many of the philosophies of Western religions. The Ten Commandments whether obeyed or not were within those religions. If a respect for life was non-existent in practice at least the idea was embodied in their beliefs and became more influential in those philosophies with the direct impact of Christian and western values.

Admittedly my liberal reader this has been a quick take on world history. However, it contains thoughts, ideas and comparisons your leftist University professors hid from you. Most of us can and do strive toward building a better and safer world but no left-winger is among the people working for that end. You don’t destroy your best in hopes a utopia will arise from the ashes. Instead, you keep the best of any society or culture and try to improve its flaws. If there are eight nations on earth feeding the world, you don’t pull them down in hopes the remaining nations will then improve their agricultural policies. I suggest you leftists force yourselves to start looking at actual history and facts and make comparisons. You make claims of wanting equality, freedom of speech and a multitude of other worthy objectives but then try destroying the very institutions that might possibly implement your goals. Committed comparative reasoning might go a long way in helping you personally and the world in general. Work from the best Christianity (or most other religions) and western civilization offer and you just might improve mankind.
