The fat settlement: More government programs in the offing

I wonder if any of the anti-smoking Nazis are feeling a little ashamed and frightened of the monster they helped to unleash on their fellow Americans yet? If not, just wait – the “others” will get around to you eventually – whatever your vice might be. Oh, you don’t have one? Don’t worry – they’ll just invent something for you to be a “victim” of.

It seems a lawsuit has been filed in a New York state court naming four fast food giants, (McDonalds, Burger King, Wendys, and KFC), as “irresponsible and deceptive in the posting of their nutritional information.” These fast food joints obviously supply a product that the public wants, but ever since the news broke that Americans are too fat and fast food is at least partly to blame, I wondered how long it would take for shysters to begin to cash in on the successful profits of these legitimate businesses. Not long evidently.

It has been obvious for a along time now that liberals can produce “victims” faster than the government can come up with programs to “cure” and “help” them. Well, maybe the two are running about neck and neck. Meanwhile, a few more lawsuits like this one and the government will have a nice new treasure chest full of “fat settlement” funds to pass around. Watch for the upcoming commercials on T.V. We’ll see a poor suffering soul in a hospital bed, dying from his umpteeth heart attack, and the face and voice of a sweet child saying something like, “Please don’t eat that nasty old fast food. Maybe YOU can be around to see YOUR child grow up.” Fade to black – Mr. Concerned Citizen Announcer voiceover says, “This message has been brought to you as a public service – paid for by the Fat Settlement Fund” – or whatever innocuous name they choose to call it.

Legal experts are already checking in with their opinions on the about to become class- action lawsuit. One such comment – “a blatant attempt to cash in on the recent publicity over obesity and the tobacco settlements” – also includes the point that “it disregarded the idea that people are responsible for their own actions.” Duh! I wonder why that didn’t fly with the tobacco suits?

These “victims” are blaming their fatty diets, (foisted upon them by the fast food industry of course), for everything from obesity to heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes. I wonder how many of these folks also claim to be non-smokers, or do I get to ask that question? The point is, far too many people were ready to jump on the bandwagon of telling their fellow citizens that they must not, should not, or could not smoke. It was a perfectly executed socialist behavior modification campaign. Tobacco companies, the small ones, were run out of business, while the big ones did what they always do – passed all their costs along to the consumer – the smoker – who now pays more in taxes than the rest of the population would even dream of paying, on top of getting gouged at the stores when they continue to buy their perfectly legal tobacco products. The sore losers simply yell “victim” and file lawsuits if they are so weak they can’t quit smoking, so that the rest of us have to foot that bill too. Nice.

So, here’s the scenario for the future “users” of fast food: See the above.

The economy will take it on the chin again when all the “little guy” fast food providers get run out of business, and soon, you’ll be paying out the nose for a hamburger. Meanwhile, the socialists in medical research will keep cranking out new studies on all the things we should not be indulging in.

Perhaps it is time to remember these words of wisdom – “Judge not, lest ye be judged.”

The next target could be something that YOU actually enjoy.
