Sean Hannity blacks out 276 times: Homeland security’s first major failure

On Blackout Day + 1, I was traveling I -77 North through Virginia’s mountains. I caught the first 90 minutes of Sean Hannity’s radio show before the signal mercifully faded out. Sean Hannity—pointing the finger at Democrats for causing the blackout—made references to liberals, Democrats, they, them (referring to Democrats), Hillary Clinton, she and her (referring to Hillary) 138 times in the first 90 minutes of his show. Prorated out for the full show with his monotonous theme of “Democrats versus Republicans”, that makes it 276 times. And just think, this does not even count his callers and his guests repeating the same “Democrats versus Republicans” theme that Hannity forces them into discussing.

When Hannity was not bantering on—avoiding the real issues regarding the blackout—he spent the rest drooling about “how wonderful the people of New York City reacted”, ad nauseam. Contrary to Hannity’s claims, there was enough crime committed Thursday to fill the courts for a whilethe lack of crime is just PR crap about how wonderful NYC is by Hannity and city officials.

As Hannity continued on, as always, with his “Democrats versus Republicans” sermon—the only lecture Hannity knows—the following crucial points were never mentioned that are tied to the blackout:

  • Hannity never mentioned the $15 billion to Africa for support of Africa’s “bad sexual practices”. Bush’s global welfare has a higher priority than America’s infrastructure. (proof below)

  • Hannity never mentioned the name Spencer Abraham, Bush’s Energy Secretary, and Hannity never mentioned the fact the Department of Energy spent $16.4 billion and $17.6 billion in 2001 and 2002 under Bush, and that the current budget for fiscal 2004 is $21 billion. You would think this much money could prevent some rat from gnawing on a power line in Parma, Ohio and causing a blackout in the Northeast. You would also think this would cause Hannity to spend some time discussing how useless the Department of Energy is, something current Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham did when he proposed legislation as a Senator in 1999 to abolish the DOE.
  • Hannity never mentioned the name of Tom Ridge, head of Homeland Security. Even though it was not caused by terrorism, Homeland Security had its first major failure as discussed below.

Bush Places Global Welfare Ahead Of America’s Infrastructure

What Hannity ignored is that Bush and the Republicans have trashed America with the same force that the Democrats have. Giving away the national treasury to our enemies takes priority over taking care of our own nation and its citizens. Here is the definition of “blackout” under both political parties:

                                                                                                                                                                                                      BLACKOUT

Blackout (blak’ out) n. 1) a temporary loss of consciousness or vision, such as when hundreds of billions of dollars are taken from American taxpayers in the form of taxes, thrown down the blackhole of global welfare, given to two-bit, hellhole, ungrateful nations who hate us and whose citizens have vowed to harm us, and America is in turn neglected, such as its infrastructure, e.g., the power supply grid.

In my Ether Zone column President’s Penchant For Palatial Priorities I listed a number of quotes from President Bush stating his palatial priorities but you will not find upgrading our infrastructure among them, even though many, such as the power supply grid, have national security ramifications.

From George Bush’s Inaugural Address, do you see our infrastructure among Bush’s top 5 priorities?

Ranked in Order

Priority

TopEducation
SecondSocial Security
ThirdMedicare
FourthTax Reduction
FifthNational Security

What about after 911? Here are Bush’s priorities from his January 2002 State of the Union address:

Ranked in Order

Priority

TopTerrorists to Justice; win war
SecondStop WMD threats against the US and the world
ThirdRevive economy
FourthExtend Unemployment Benefits
FifthEducation

Let’s make this clear. For George Bush to say that the recent blackout was “a wake-up call” makes our President the one dozing off and sleeping. I certainly did not need a “wake-up call” to know that Bush places priorities such as the following ahead of our own infrastructure, as this partial list from President’s Penchant For Palatial Priorities shows”:

“My administration has no greater priority than education—1/24/2001

“Today, I want to raise the priority and profile of these issues [faith based initiatives] within my own administration.”—1/29/2001

“The values of our children must be a priority of our nation.”— 3/31/2001

“Attacking global poverty has been the central focus of the Genoa Summit, and is a priority of U.S. foreign policy.”—7/21/2001

How about this gem from post-911?

Early learning is a priority for my government.”—4/3/2002

Sean Hannity’s one-tracked theme of “Democrats versus Republicans” totally ignores the fact that Bush and the Republicans have equal weighting with the Democrats in the trashing of our nation and the bankrupting of our national treasury.

I hope that all those affected by the blackout reflect on the fact Bush gave $15 billion to Africa in support of Africa’s “bad sexual practices”. Even though Hannity ignores the relationship of the blackout to the hundreds of billions of dollars of canceled debt and global welfare directed to these blackhole money pits over the last decade, I hope the voters don’t ignore it next go around.

Abolish the Department of Energy

Any Department once headed up by the corrupt Clinton appointee Hazel O’Leary, and created by inept President Jimmy Carter, deserves to be shut down, even if to just clear out the lingering stench.

Spencer Abraham had it right when he proposed to abolish the Department of Energy. It is a reflection on George Bush’s poor management abilities that he has not proposed the demise of the DOE as 85% of its budget involves handling the nation’s nuclear weapons, something the Defense Department should handle. Most of those in the know have stated the remaining 15% is pure waste on fat, dumb, and lazy bureaucrats.

Certainly, the fact that we are more dependent on foreign oil today than when the Department was created speaks volumes, unless it is Sean Hannity who has his finger on the volume control button.

Homeland Security’s First Major Failure

In the same week we had the blackout, we also had the attempt to smuggle in Russian made SAMs (ostensibly to shoot down airliners) and a major cyber attack through an Internet email “worm”. We need leadership at Homeland Security. We need a director demanding calls to action from our president—what we don’t need is the president having a “wake-up call”.

With all the resources Homeland Security has, how is it that Bush had a “wake-up call”? Can a Department with hundreds of billions of dollars fail to look ahead and not see potential problems with our infrastructure, something a couple guys sitting at a bar slinging beers surely can see? The prior warnings about our power grid compare in intensity to the prior warnings about potential hijackers crashing airliners into buildings.

Someone has to reign in George Bush and his propensity and penchant for palatial priorities and Tom Ridge and Homeland Security is the Department who should.

Because they did not, and because our nation has not begun improving on our 50 year old power grid technology, Homeland Security has had its first major failure.

Sean Hannity’s horrendous avoidance of the real issues surrounding the blackout, while playing his childish “us versus them” theme, bodes ill for this nation. Here we have a leading spokesman for “conservatives” in America continuing to point his finger at the Democrats while ignoring the fact the Republicans ride shotgun with them.

The national audience’s failure to get Hannity to focus on the government’s (both parties) destruction of our founding principles and its “America second—global welfare first” policy makes it clear this nation will never have a grassroots rebellion to return our nation to its core principles laid out by our founding fathers.
