Rejecting Agape: Fear of control by the creator

Dominionists seek the Graced progression of Godly control over His creation through individuals seeking to live under His Laws while being favored with the power and absolution provided by the sacrifice of God’s Only Begotten Son, King Jesus. We seek this for all of His creatures in order that His loving order and hegemony might again fall over His creation. King Jesus has already provided the enablement necessary to make this transition possible and it is now the responsibility of those whom He has chosen to bring it about.

Dominionists do not seek to impose God’s Laws on our secular society. Law is not functional in disobedient societies so the blessings of His loving Legal Provisions cannot be obtained without the assent of those who live under them.

Recently, a spate of commentary has incorrectly labeled the Bush Administration and its supporters as Dominionists. Mixing the plainly delineated Biblical tenets proposed by Dr. Rousas Rushdoony with the gossamer intentions of Evangelicals and the nefarious proposals of humanists, they fabricate a partly true and partly false, fear-producing scenario.

Most of these writings are strident but one by Katherine Yurica is particularly virulent. She begins with the following statement, “This article is the documented story of how a political religious movement called Dominionism gained control of the Republican Party, then took over Congress, then took over the White House, and now is sealing the conversion of America to a theocracy by taking over the American Judiciary. It’s the story of why and how “the wrath of God Almighty” will be unleashed against the middle class, against the poor, and against the elderly and sick of this nation by George W. Bush and his army of Republican Dominionistrulers.”

The piece is a hodgepodge filled with sarcasm, half-truths and what appear to be outright lies. She labels most Evangelicals Dominionists and is aghast at the thought of them creating a Theocracy. She connects Dominionists with the NeoCons and with the political scheming advocated by Machiavelli.

From Leo Strauss’s “Thoughts on Machiavelli” she quotes the following excerpt, “One ought not to say to those whom one wants to kill, ‘Give me your votes, because your votes will enable me to kill you and I want to kill you,’ but merely, ‘Give me your votes,’ for once you have the power of the votes in your hand, you can satisfy your desire.

Railing at Calvinism Ms. Yurica is horrified that God is omnipotent, omnipresent, and infinite, knowing both the beginning and the end. She scoffs at predestination and insinuates that Dominionists believe those whom God has chosen “can do no wrong”.

From the writings of journalist Frederick Clarkson Ms. Yurica includes “Women would be generally relegated to hearth and home. Insufficiently Christian men would be denied citizenship, perhaps executed. So severe is this theocracy that it would extend capital punishment [to] blasphemy, heresy, adultery, and homosexuality.

The contagion of rebellion against God’s Legal Mandates is an indication of the precipitous moral decline in American society.

Those who are aghast at the lethal sections of God’s Laws never properly consider the results of living under secular law. History offers ample evidence of the pernicious nature of power in the hands of unrestrained persons. Governments not constituted under God’s overarching statutes become messianic by default and are always in danger of anarchic lethal actions. With the assent of the Priests, it was a humanist official of the Roman Empire that consigned Our Savior to death. The Marxist Jewish group that initiated the Russian Revolution and Stalin who followed, annihilated hundreds of thousands of dissenters and innocents alike. The One True God Who created the world and all that is in it requires allegiance and obedience but, unlike humanist Marxism, His Legal system is not esoteric and capricious but clearly written and easily knowable.

As with all dangerous lies, attempts to link Bush II with Dominionism contain elements of truth. The NeoCons are closely connected with the secular philosophies of Machievelli and Leo Strauss   However, the NeoCons are not Christians and although most Evangelical Christians ardently support Israel and the Zionist agenda, the philosophies of the NeoCons are extraneous to Christian doctrine and are not supported by Dominionists. Evangelicals are not only opposed to the use of God’s Laws in contemporary society but believe they do not apply to today’s Christians. For them Dominionism may be a wish but since law sets the religious base for every society, under their theology it is unattainable!

There are other commentaries that attempt to instill fear of Godly dominion:

Back in December I wrote a rebuttal to one of them.

The policies of the Bush II Administration bear no resemblance to the mandates of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. His Laws have never been publicly proclaimed nor are they considered in the secular environment that makes up the culture in our Nation’s Capitol. President Bush’s advisors are a worldly group of humanistic elitists who are busy pushing the New World Order espoused by the Council on Foreign Relations to which most, if not all, belong.

The Evangelical base that was largely responsible for the election of the Bush II Administration includes conversion seeking Baptists, ecstasy seeking Pentecostals and Charismatics, small but adamant Jewish dominated Messianic congregations, and a variety of Evangelical independent groups. The majority seeks Christian influence at the centers of power. Their leaders (most of whom belong to the Council for National Policy) are supporters of President Bush. Gary Bauer, James Dobson, Jerry Falwell, D. James Kennedy, Ralph Reed, Pat Robertson, and Phyllis Schlafly are a few who support the Bush II regime and who wield great influence on America‘s Christians.

Though they rant against the aberrance of government policies these men lack a defined antidote. Evil is enforced through humanistic laws and the only remedy is Godly Law. Without Law their dominionist intent is harmless.

According to the Old Testament narrative, (1 Samuel 8) God was displeased when His chosen people clamored for a human king. He sought to maintain His Kingship and ultimately sacrificed His Son to restore it. King Jesus! Real Dominionists are ardent supporters of God’s Laws because His Kingship is consummated by obedience.

Dominionists wait for God’s Grace in the hearts of those who would live under human law to tire of the sinful chaos it creates and return to the righteous peace and order He seeks for His people. As I mentioned above, the imposition of God’s Laws on a disobedient and rebellious society would be useless.

Dominionists plead guilty to harboring the hope and desire for a return to Theonomy under the Laws God gave to ancient Israel. Yes, we are Calvinists and believe God is sovereign. We are disdainful of the Bush II Administration because we see no evidence that it is advancing Godly dominion.  Further, we do not believe the Bush administration or the Evangelicals who support it are capable of creating Godly government under their present doctrines.

The terror exhibited by Katherine Yurica and others over God’s legal structure is indicative of the inroads the Enlightenment has made in the church. American Christians are weak and ineffective because they no longer seek God and His Kingdom instead preferring the product of human reason. Our Savior without God’s Laws becomes an effete toothless tiger rather than the robust Lion of Judah.

We worship a loving and patient God. His ways will not be imposed tyrannically. When they come they will come because the hearts of His people have been turned toward Him, seeking His Ways and His dominion.

As long as God’s people reject His Ways, we will live in the terror of humanistic chaos and tyranny. When we seek Him with our whole heart and like King David learn to love and obey His Mandates, order, peace, and prosperity will return to His creation.
