When former President William Jefferson Clinton was confronted with the fact that he had lured a low level female government employee named Monica Lewinsky into a sexual relationship, his response was that he did not have sexual relations with Miss Lewinsky.
When the monarch of the ancient Nation of Israel was confronted with the fact that he had committed adultery, arranged the husband’s death, and took the widow as his wife, his response was, “I have sinned against the Lord.” (Read 2 Samuel Chapters 11 and 12.) He then wrote these words in the 51st Psalm. “Be gracious to me, O God, according to Thy lovingkindness; according to the greatness of Thy compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions and my sin is ever before me. Against Thee, Thee only, I have sinned and done what is evil in Thy sight, so that Thou are justified when Thou dost speak, and blameless when Thou dost judge.”
Former President Clinton’s escapade was not as serious as King David’s; it ended in a quibble over the definition of “is” while King David’s egregious action was severely punished and forgiven.
The complete story of King David, Bathsheba, and her husband Uriah is one of the most gripping in the entire Bible. Bathsheba was a beautiful woman and King David, a great king and a man after God’s own heart, used his absolute power to secretly impregnate her in an act of adultery. He then summoned her husband from the battlefield hoping he might sleep with her and cover the sin. Uriah turned out to be a man of superior character who, considering he had left his fellow soldiers exposed to danger, refused to sleep with his wife. King David then dispatched him to the front lines of battle where he would surely be killed and took Bathsheba as his wife. At the risk of his own life Nathan the prophet confronted King David who immediately admitted his sin and attributed it to being against God.
What little reference to sin is left in our society generally refers to transgressions against the laws of the state or transgressions against relationships with other people. Seldom do we consider that all sin is first against God whose laws have been broken and whose peaceful order has been affronted. We are living in His kingdom and in spite of the prideful arrogance of his creatures, obedience to His Laws is still His major concern.
A. W. Tozer’s candor was a blessing to those who sought truth but an irritant to others. Tozer enjoined leaders to accept and consider criticism from the most lowly source and if it contained truth to repent and to make the proper adjustments.
Writing several decades ago, Tozer further recorded that anyone who does not believe our Christian leaders are full of pride should go and try to correct one. In my earlier, more naïve Christian walk I was able to confirm Tozer’s observation.
A current attempt to correct the ministry of Dr. James Dobson is being met with a response similar to that of former President Clinton. Instead of acknowledging the measure of truth involved in attempts to make the message more accurate the Dobson camp is circling the wagons and defending its position. As I read about this brouhaha I am reminded of the words of Christ as recorded in the 5th, 6th, and 7th verses of the 23rd Chapter of Matthew. “But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries, and lengthen the tassels of their garments. And they love the place of honor at banquets, and the chief seats in the synagogues, and respectful greetings in the market places, and being called by men, Rabbi.” Do we not have Christian leaders who scramble to get the ear of our political leaders and seem to be willing to forsake righteousness to maintain their good standing in the seats of power? The dedication of the Billy Graham Library was infested with politicians.
The Dobson camp has assumed a pragmatic position. Is King Jesus pleased when we allow an end to justify a sinful means? No, the Church of Jesus Christ is vested with the responsibility to point to all sinful actions wherever they occur. A little good mixed with lots of sin is still sin and should be addressed as such. “Better is a little with righteousness than great income with injustice.” Proverbs 16:8
Fighting the inexorable progress of blatant evil in our government and society provides a source of considerable revenue to Christian ministries and during my lifetime their losing battle has allowed them to grow to massive proportions. Ministries that started with good intentions became albatrosses around the necks of Christian leaders who were sorely needed in a more nimble capacity.
According to most polls, abortion is supported by about half of our citizens. Righteousness must be sought by the majority otherwise disobedience will result. It is futile to try to impose righteous laws on a populace that supports evil and disobedience.
The fight to stop abortion should be carried on in local churches where disgust for this procedure should be burned into the minds of every citizen. The destruction of the United States of America will only stop when and if the Christian Church repents.
We are being ruled by barbarians whose Machiavellian actions have hoodwinked many Christians and contributed to their callow support of aberrant agendas. Government in United States is fundamentally lawless and dishonest. The Constitution is the highest law of our land and when the President and the congress ignore its provisions any semblance of good government is lost. Disobedience to their oath of office as well as the law constitutes grounds for their impeachment. Instead, voters continue to engage in the charade of voting even though they are casting their vote for criminals.
A nation with lawless leaders is adrift without an anchor in the anarchic sea of human opinion. We now live in such a nation. Government and those who control it have usurped the seat of the Creator and are now in the process of writing and enforcing the laws that will support their humanistic endeavor.
Supported by scores of conservative and Christian leaders our president arrogantly claims the he is the “decider” and goes on with treasonous plans to wreck the very nation whose people have elected him to protect it and its Constitution. He has illegally invaded and occupied Iraq, a distant nation that was never a threat to us, and established permanent bases He is threatening Iran. He has purposely allowed our borders to be overrun with foreigners as a prelude to a North American Union and conspired to bankrupt the country by creating the largest budgets in history. He has accrued to himself and his office the power of an absolute dictator and is biding time until the proper event allows the realization of that power.
Think of the hubris involved in those who are individually selected to attend the meetings of the Council on Foreign Relations or the Trilateral Commission or the secret meetings of the Bilderbergers. The unelected participants in these meetings have been selected as members of an elite cadre vested with the freedom to create legal structures and form strategies that will bring about their notion of how the world should be organized. Behind them are powerful bankers who control the world’s finances. There is no fear of God in these men and women. They are riding high and anticipating being part of the cadre involved in the new world order.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was an intellectually gifted black girl born to a Christian minister in Birmingham, Alabama. She lived in a structured home and was encouraged in her studies by her equally gifted father. Her schooling produced consistent honors culminating in a Doctorate in Political Science from University of Denver at the age of 26. Smart and motivated for success she was selected for membership at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). Her resume includes stints on the boards of directors of such prestigious corporations as Rand, Chevron, Carnegie, Schwab, and Hewlett Packard. Dr. Rice can be depended upon to obediently support the world government agenda that has been developed by her friends and associates at the CFR and in the Bush Administration. Her ambition led her to this juncture and she has been groomed to continue in that direction. Pride keeps her engaged in the iniquity of government. She is typical of our leadership.
A pagan revolution is almost complete and it involves the entire world.
It is an interesting paradox that the push against Muslims involves the intent to destroy the world’s only remaining exclusive religion whose adherents practice it with zeal. Christianity has been dormant in Europe for decades and its followers in the Americas have been so badly dumbed down that their conception of living a Christian life differs only slightly from that of pagans
Think of the ignorance and pride involved in supporting the invasion of Iraq and the associated deaths of millions of innocent civilians. Former Secretary of State Madeline Albright assessed the deaths of half a million Iraqi children as “worth it“. It is difficult to understand how a right thinking person could make such a statement.
The Creator of the Universe, the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, is being vilified and marginalized. A dark age is a just recompense for the wickness of the world population and God may allow it to happen, however, He hates pride and ultimately, pride will sink the world empire.
