Magic modern wonder drugs: Sorts of sorcery?

There is, as you well-read readers doubtless know, great money to be made in drugs these days.  The most profitable and most widely used are those that seem to be for the purpose of providing “personality-in-a-bottle.”  There are many people turning their minds unnecessarily over to the “molecular magic” of modern medicine in the form of consciousness changing pharmacy.

I think that we all know somebody who even appears to be “under a spell” with vacant eyes, halting- or disjointed- speech behaving in a manner different from well-adjusted, non-medicated (maybe unelected) people.  Those I write of, who are under the (spell) influence of magic pharmacy attempt to recruit others, telling them that they can also find happiness or relief from even the most painful of experiences at the drug store.

Trust me I do not make light of people who’ve suffered pain they cannot deal with.  They have my sympathy but they do not serve themselves by dabbling in things they do not know.  Frankly too many consciences are being numbed, subverted, truncated and even destroyed in the pursuit of lessening the undesired effect of some aspects of life just being aspects of life.  For reasons that seem obvious to me, which I am not certain I can fully relate to you, the Creator of the universe has warned us away from turning our minds over to (unnecessary) pharmaceutical influence.

Recall that Jesus warned us to guard our minds from any manner of untoward influence.  With that I’d like to address scripture which can help us learn of a danger that is replete and rampant in American life.

Revelation 22: 14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. 15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

The word “sorcerer” here is interesting. Get out the search resource material…

Strong’s Concordance with Hebrew and Greek dictionaries:

The word for sorcerer is –   Pharmakos, n. GK: 5761 [->5331]. one who practices magical arts, magician: -sorcerers [1]

[5331] Pharmakeia, n. GK 5758 {5332, 5333]. witchcraft, magi, the use of spells and potions of magic, often involving drugs : sorceries [2], witchcraft [1]  [Emphasis mine.]

When we consider how many Americans are “habitually” under the “spell” of pharmaceuticals- I mean to the point of changing habits and personalities- we should shudder.  We even see neutering natural activities and appetites of normal, healthy boys with drugs prescribed to “treat” ADHD, and the suppression of many natural appetites (good and bad).  We really need to be thinking about just how bad it has gotten.

How did it get that way?  Who benefits?  I think that this is beyond money, though money be the root of all kinds of evil; I think that there is a spirit of deception at work in the pharmaceutical industry.  I think that it threatens the very strength, the very essence of our nation.  I believe it threatens and hinders freedom of conscience and the eternity of our fellow man.
