Published 4 years ago -  - 4y ago 7

Summary: Amazon Instant Video is an excellent platform for consuming your favorite videos, TV shows, and, now, even movies from around the world.

Unfortunately, Amazon has licensing agreements in place that prevents them from allowing the entire world to access the content on their servers.

To protect their creators and producers, Amazon has limited access to certain TV shows and movies in certain parts of the world, greatly diminishing the size of their content libraries for some people.

If you have found that your favorite TV shows and movies aren’t available on Amazon Instant Video because of your location, there are ways to bypass the restrictions.

To keep yourself safe online and secure and bypass location-based content restrictions on Amazon Instant Video with ExpressVPN, click here now.

Why You Should Trust Us

At Etherzone, we have brought together a team of researchers and writers that pride themselves on staying at the leading edge of the internet technology and security industries.

Their primary goal is to help our readers overcome technical and security issues that they’re having whenever they are connected to the internet.

Testing Methodology

In 2017, there are more than 173 different VPN services you can choose from, and making the decision can be impossible because every service available claims that they are the best.

We’ve been in the industry for a long time, and know that there can be only one best VPN service, which is why we’re testing all the available options to find the real winner.

How We Tested Each VPN ServicE

To help you overcome geo-location restrictions that you’re facing when you access Amazon’s Instant Video platform, we’re going to test each of the 173 different VPN services available.

To skip the methodology and go straight to our recommendations, click here now.

Our testing process will begin by immediately eliminating those services that force you to participate in invasive surveillance and tracking programs.

We will then eliminate any service that fails to offer the features we believe users accessing Amazon Instant Video will require from a VPN service.

Then, we are going to eliminate those services that have developed a poor reputation in the VPN industry by using third-party websites that consolidate reviews from past and current customers.

Finally, we are going to put the remaining services through extensive testing, using 5 different criteria that will help us make an objective determination on the best VPN service available.

Those criteria are:

Price – Pricing is an important factor to consider, because the rates charged by many services does not necessarily determine the quality of the service they provide.

Setup Process – We want to make sure that you can easily subscribe to each service we recommend, and use the software they provide to establish a connection to their network without issues.

Ease of Use – We also want to make sure that you can maintain the connection to their network without requiring extensive help from their customer support team.

Speed – We are going to be testing each service by running load tests through different servers located around the world, and averaging the results to find the fastest speeds offered.

Customer Service – We will be submitting multiple requests to each service’s customer support teams to determine how quickly they respond and ensure they offer helpful responses.

Below are the results we’ve found during our elimination and review process.

VPN Services You Should Avoid

Even though you may be attempting to bypass geo-location restrictions, an added benefit of using a Virtual Private Network service is remaining anonymous while you’re online.

In many countries around the world, governments are beginning to force internet service providers in their country to track your online activity, and may even use the information to prosecute you.

This program is known as “14 Eyes”, and forces internet service providers in countries that participate in it to track what you’re doing and report that information to the government.

To keep you from dealing with surveillance programs, we have immediately eliminated any service that is based in a country where they can be forced to participate in 14 Eyes.

VPNs Disqualified Due to Missing Features

We are going to continue our elimination process by verifying that the services remaining on our list offer the features we believe are required when you’re streaming video on Amazon Instant Video.

As we move forward, we’ll cover each of the features that we’re looking for and give you examples of the services we have eliminated for failing to provide them.

Criteria #1: OpenVPN Support

Whenever you establish a connection to the internet or a Virtual Private Network service, there are protocols in place that help them manage your connection and keep it secure.

In general, OpenVPN is regarded as one of the most secure and well-supported protocols, which is why we have eliminated those services that do not utilize it.

AnonVPN and Betternet are two VPN services that have been eliminated from being eligible for our recommendation because they lack OpenVPN support.

Criteria #2: Unlimited Bandwidth & Data Transfer

Any time you download a file from the internet, send or receive emails, browse web pages, or stream video content, you are consuming bandwidth.

Some VPN services will limit the amount of bandwidth you can transfer on their network. Any service that limits your bandwidth usage has been eliminated from our list.

Cloak and Celo are two VPN services with bandwidth limiting policies that we have eliminated from being eligible to receive our recommendation.

Criteria #3: No Data Logging Policies

Any time you connect to the internet or a Virtual Private Network service, your service provider could be tracking your activity to help diagnose issues you may have with your connection.

We believe that any type of data logging and activity tracking policies are invasive, and have eliminated any services that have those policies in place.

Hola!VPN and Seed4Me are two services with data logging policies that have been eliminated from being eligible to receive our recommendation.

Criteria #4: Support for Multiple Operating Systems

If you connect to the internet with multiple devices that each have a different operating system, you need a VPN service that supports each of those operating systems.

Any VPN service that provides software that isn’t compatible with most major operating systems has been eliminated from being eligible for receiving our recommendation.

IntelliVPN and SunVPN are two of the services we have eliminated because the software they provide is buggy and incompatible with different major operating systems.

Criteria #5: Support Multiple Concurrent Connections

If you connect with multiple devices, you are also going to need a VPN service that allows you to connect each device to their network without becoming slow and unreliable.

Any VPN service that has connection issues when you attach multiple devices to their network, or blocks your ability to establish multiple connections has been removed from our list.

HotVPN and IBVPN are two of the VPN services we have eliminated because they block your ability to establish multiple active connections to their network.

Criteria #6: Free-Trials, Refunds, and Money-Back Guarantee

We want to make sure that our readers can protect themselves by taking our recommendation without potentially risking the money they’ll be spending on a VPN service.

Any VPN service that does not allow their subscribers to test their service, or at least offer a money-back guarantee has been eliminated from our list.

VPN Shield and VPNBaron are two VPN services we have eliminated because they do not take the buying risk away from new subscribers.

Criteria #7: No Peer2Peer Blocking

Many video content streaming services will utilize Peer2Peer and other filesharing technologies to help reduce the load on their servers and provide fast, reliable connection speeds.

Any VPN service that blocks your ability to connect to Peer2Peer and other filesharing networks has been eliminated from being eligible to receive our recommendation.

LibertyVPN and VPNJack are two of the services we have eliminated because they do not allow you to connect to filesharing networks while you’re connected to their service.

Criteria #8: No Mandatory SMTP Blocking

When you attempt to send, and receive emails while you are connected to some service’s networks, you could find yourself getting frustrated because email protocols have been blocked.

Services that block your ability to send and receive emails while you are connected to their network have been eliminated from being eligible for our recommendation.

Tunnelbear and TorVPN are two of the services we have eliminated because they have blocked access to email protocols.

VPNs Eliminated Due to Poor Reviews

To continue working through our list and eliminating services, we are going to be utilizing third-party websites that allow customers to leave reviews and feedback of their experience with a service.

Any VPN service that has consistently received poor ratings or developed a reputation for providing poor service has been eliminated from our list.

Top 3 VPNs for Amazon Instant Video

Through numerous different elimination processes, we have dwindled down our list of eligible services to a total of 3.

Each of the remaining three services will be reviewed based on five criteria:

  • Price
  • Setup Process
  • Ease of Use
  • Speed
  • Customer Service

Each of the 3 services that remained on our list will be compared against each other using extended testing procedures to help find the best VPN service for Amazon Instant Video users.

#1 ExpressVPN (9.5 / 10) – The Best VPN Service for Amazon Instant Video

When you’re trying to find the best VPN service for Amazon Instant Video, ExpressVPN offers one of the strongest networks and best customer support teams.

PROs

When it comes to pricing, ExpressVPN may not be the cheapest, but they are also not the most expensive service that’s currently available.

They charge $12.95 per month, or $8.32 per month for 12-month subscriptions, which allows them to remain competitive while still devoting significant resources to the growth of their network.

The ExpressVPN software is highly developed, and makes it easy for you to establish a connection to their network. During testing, we connected to their servers within a few minutes.

We performed speed tests through multiple servers located around the world and found that ExpressVPN ranked #1 in tests performed through United States-based and United Kingdom-based servers.

While contacting the customer support team at ExpressVPN, we received helpful responses, and most of those responses arrived within 60 minutes, or less.

CONs

Even though ExpressVPN impressed us during testing, we do not believe a perfect VPN service exists, and noticed areas we believe ExpressVPN could be improved to provide a better experience.

During speed tests performed through Australian-based servers, ExpressVPN provided fast connection speeds, but did only rank #2 out of the 3 services we tested.

Their customer support team, while responsive and helpful, did take 3 hours to respond to one of the requests that we sent. This may have been due to being a busier time during the day, though.

Summary: After completing extended testing on the ExpressVPN service, we have found that they offer the strongest network, best customer support team, fastest speeds, and competitive pricing.

If you are looking for the best VPN service for Amazon Instant Video, ExpressVPN has won our recommendation by topping the charts in every area of our tests.

#2 IPVanish – (7.5 / 10) – Suitable if ExpressVPN isn’t Available for You

While ExpressVPN easily secured our top spot to take the recommendation as the best VPN service for Amazon Instant Video, we understand they may not be available for everyone reading this.

If you find that you cannot subscribe to ExpressVPN, or your connection to their network and experience with their customer support team differs from ours, IPVanish can be a suitable alternative solution.

PROs

IPVanish offers some of the most competitively priced packages, charging less than $5 per month whenever you subscribe for 12 months, or more, at a time.

The IPVanish software is simple to download and configure, making it possible for us to use it to establish a connection to their network within 10 minutes after paying for our subscription.

During speed tests performed through servers located in the United States and the United Kingdom, IPVanish secured the #2 spot by providing relatively fast and reliable connections.

If you happen to have issues with your connection to their network, or an account or billing problem, the customer support team at IPVanish is helpful, answering requests within 3 hours, in most cases.

CONs

Like ExpressVPN, IPVanish performed well during most of our testing processes, but there were areas we found that could be improved to help them provide better service in the future.

In terms of customer service response times, there were occasions where we were forced to wait up to 8 hours to receive a response from the IPVanish team.

We also found that IPVanish ranked #3 in speed tests that were performed through servers located in Australia.

Summary: Even though we’ve found that ExpressVPN easily outperformed IPVanish, there may be times that ExpressVPN isn’t available for you.

If you are unable to subscribe to ExpressVPN, IPVanish could be a suitable alternative solution with a good network, responsive customer support team, and acceptable connection speeds.

#3 HideMyAss – (5.5 / 10) (Not Recommended)

Before we get into our review of HideMyAss, we need to make a disclaimer that the performance they showed during tests we performed make it impossible to recommend them to our readers.

HideMyAss did manage to make it through our elimination process to be included in our extended review, but we experienced significant issues with their service once testing began.

PROs

The only area that did not cause issues for us is the software that HideMyAss provides with your subscription that you’ll use to connect to their network.

We subscribed to their service, downloaded the software, and configured it to connect to their network, and established a connection within 10 minutes after paying for our subscription.

CONs

Once connected to their network, though, the problems that we would have throughout the entire review process began happening.

They are currently one of the most expensive VPN services we’ve tested, charging almost $17.00 per month for a subscription to their service.

We performed multiple speed tests through different servers located around the world, and experienced slow and unreliable connection speeds, making it difficult to obtain accurate results.

We attempted to contact their customer service team for help with the issues we were having and did receive helpful responses, but it took them more than 24 hours to respond, in most cases.

Summary: Even though HideMyAss squeezed through our elimination processes to land on the list of services to be reviewed, it is hard to recommend them as a viable solution.

If you want to bypass location restrictions and stay anonymous while you’re using Amazon Instant Video, there are far better services available, like ExpressVPN.

Wrapping It Up

If you attempted to connect to Amazon Instant Video and found out that a large portion of their content library has been blocked because of your location, there are ways to bypass these restrictions.

Connecting through a Virtual Private Network service lets you hide your original location so you can access their entire content library, while securing your connection to the internet at the same time.

After an extended elimination process and testing the top 3 services, we have found that ExpressVPN offers the strongest network, best customer support team, and competitive pricing.
